Thank you, Esko K. ;-)

We will stick with the Estonians for the next round: There was a definite personal connection with the Estonian volunteers and Marshal Mannerheim. What was that? And I do not mean the thank-you order-of-the day by Mannerheim when the Estonians returned home.

regards,
Tapani K.

...and shall I try to answer the question too...

Of the first Estonian volunteers the III/JR 47 (Third batallion, Infantry Regiment 47) was formed. The commander of the batallion was major C. Gripenberg, Mannerheims nephew.

Without checking any sources, my guess is this is the list of booty gained from the motti in Porlampi in early September 1941.

Thank you.

How many Russian officers of the rank of major and up did Finns capture in 1941-44, including the corresponding naval ranks but excluding comissars?

Well, there was one major-general, one colonel, one lieutenant-colonel...

...could it been just one major among them, so the answer would then be 4...?

No, there were considerably more majors... and some naval officers, too.

...two Navy commanders and ten times the amount of Finnish majors taken POW by the Soviets in the same time period...

Soviets only ever captured one Finnish major, so the answer must be ten Soviet majors captured by Finns?

IIRC there were two majors, the other being a medical.
So...
