Well... high casualties may have contributed, but were not the reason (at least according to my sources which I trust are more credible than this web-page).

Another hint: the reason was not scatological but criminal.

You are correct. And it should be pointed out that as some people try to paint Finland as Nazi Sympathizers during WWII , small examples like this show than Finland was not part of the master race ideology of Germany. I opted to throw in this at this time as I was unclear if there was a question posed. Tero T

Hmmmm....... A guess... Could it be so that the encirkeled unit was set up by convicts and that they had not had the opportunity to wash their clothes/themselves and was very dirty, and hence the name...?
