Jaeger Platoon, Finnish Army 1918 - 1945 Website has been updated. The main thing added in this update is part 1 of armoured trains (telling about armoured trains used in Finnish Civil War at 1918, the information about Finnish armoured trains upto year 1944 will be available at later date in parts 2 and 3 once I get them done). Also large updates in anti-aircraft guns and aa-machineguns pages. Smaller updates made all over the small arms pages.

Jaeger Platoon, Finnish Army 1918 - 1945 Website has been updated again.

Location of the website:
http://www.jaegerplatoon.net/

This update took time to make, as the new materials will show. Included to update this time are three major things:

1. Part 2 of Finnish Armoured Trains series. This part covers the time from end of Finnish Civil War in 1918 to end of Winter War in 1940.

2. Rather detailed drawings showing most important wagons of Finnish armoured trains from the side. The idea is to give show the gradual development of these wagons and what kind of modifications they received during their career. Below is little preview.

3. Small arms that Finnish Army almost had in World War 2. The two pages made for this subject cover the often asked small arms projects of Finnish military, which failed reaching mass-production status either before or during World War 2. Included are weapons such as:
- 9 mm submachinegun M/44
- 9 mm Suomi submachinegun M/42
- 9 mm military pistol M/44
- 7.62 mm light machinegun L-34
- 7.62 mm automatic rifle L-36
- 7.62 mm general purpose machinegun L-41 "Sampo"
- Finnish 7.62 mm x 54R caliber version of MG 42 general purpose machinegun
- And many others...

As usual the website also has large number of smaller and bit larger updates. The individual pages containing these updates have been marked with text (UPDATED) in the main page.

Enjoy

And after a very long while - finally another update. This time the most important new materials are about armoured cars, which Finnish White Army captured during Finnish Civil War in 1918. These Armstrong-Whitworth Fiat and Austin 3rd series armoured cars served in use of Finnish Civil Guard until 1920's. As before the website location is:

Once again the website has been updated. Since today is 70 year anniversary for starting of Finnish - Soviet Winter War, I considered it fitting to add the history of Vickers 6 ton tank and T-26E tank, which was its later version modified by the Finns. During Winter War Vickers 6 ton tanks were the only modern tanks used by Finnish Army. In new modified form of T-26E, the Vickers 6-ton tanks that survived the Winter War continued their service also in Finnish - Soviet Continuation War and Finnish - German Lapland War.

As before, the main page of the website is here: http://www.jaegerplatoon.net/

The history of Vickers 6 ton tank and T-26E tank can be found here: http://www.jaegerplatoon.net/TANKS2.htm

As before, there are numerous smaller updates all over the websites, the updated webpages have been marked accordingly.

Captured Soviet T-26 tank was the most most common armoured vehicle in Finnish use during World War 2.

The website has been updated again. This time two new pages were added:

1. Page about captured Soviet flame tanks taken in Finnish use. Their career with Finnish Army was quite short, but IMO the story about them is certainly worth telling. Not much has been written about these tanks even in Finnish publications, so much of the material is based to archive sources. The particular new page can be found here: http://www.jaegerplatoon.net/TANKS4.htm

2. Page about Frontier Jaegers added. These were units created from Border Guards, which during peace-time are the professional force guarding Finnish borders. The page can be found here: http://www.jaegerplatoon.net/FORMATIONS11.htm

Website updated again. This time the main new contents added is page about history of BT-5, BT-7 and T-50 tanks in Finnish use. Their role in Finnish use was rather marginal at best, but still interesting part about history of these tanks. The page can be found here: http://www.jaegerplatoon.net/TANKS5.htm

New update about German - Finnish battle of Suursaari Island in September 1944 added to the website. This battle had significance far beyond it's size. This short but bitter battle on isolated island was a turning point from one war to another, breaking point of political relations and military disaster all wrapped in one.
