Alfred Roselieb became an official executioner in Dresden, Weimar, and Halle/Saale on 1 April 1944 at the age of 52. He was a former assistant of Berlin Plotzensee executioner Willi Roettger.

Alfred Roselieb died in 1969, in the same year as Prague Pankrac prison executioner Alois Weiss. Neither one was ever prosecuted for their role in mass murder of people who opposed Hitler.

Kobylisy Firing Range in Prague. In the back of this military firing range, Nazis set up an execution site where many Czech freedom fighters were executed by a firing squad. Their bodies, just like the bodies of those beheaded in Pankrac prison, were secretly cremated at night in the Strasnice Crematorium.

Anton Hummler was guillotined in Brandenburg-Gorden prison on 25 September 1944.

In December 1944, his wife Frieda received the following letter: "The judgment of the People's Court of 4 August 1944 against her husband Anton Hummler was executed on 25 September 1944. The publication of a death notice is not permitted.

Wilhelm Mohslacher was guillotined in Roter Ochse prison in Halle/Saale on 19 May 1944 at the age of 18.

The photo above was probably taken at the same time as the photo below, most likely while the fallbeil was still in Hannover prison. The fallbeil has the bascule attached, which was removed after installation of the fallbeil in Wolfenbuettel prison.

According to the article, the guillotine malfunctioned on the planned execution day of13th June 1944, so they got to live two more days before being executed on 15 June 1944. The executioner was most likely Friedrich Hehr.

Leopold Leeb, Franz Weinhofer, and Josef Schiffmann were guillotined at Vienna Regional Court on 28 October 1942. The executioner was most likely Johann Reichhart.

Hello Pete, in early August 2018 I will visit an state archive in Berlin and the former execution-site in Brandenburg-Görden too. I want to see the Mannhart-machine there - and photograph it from different ancles. The authorities of the memorial site gave green light for a visit - but you never know.

In Berlin I hope to find new informations about the German state executioners until 1945 (and hopefully photos of them). On the 2nd of August there is a chance to visit the hall in which the trials following the 20th July 1944-assassination attempt took place. And where Freisler was screaming out loud.The room looked like undestroyed while World War 2.

Do you have an special idea or (photograph) wish concerning my visit? Greetings from Nuremberg, Bavaria, Germany Michael

thanks for letting me know about your upcoming visit.

Anything you can find would be of interest, especially authentic photographs of scharfrichters and fallbeil execution sites. Many readers here would like to see a photo of Carl Groepler, Willi Roettger, and other scharfrichters whose photos cannot be found in literature or on internet. Execution room photos showing original fallbeils in situ would also be great. For exaple, the Mannhardt fallbeil presently exhibited at Brandenburg-Gorden is not the original fallbiel used at that site. Some assert that this fallbeil is the original Ploetzensee fallbel. The fallbeil actually used at Brandenburg-Gorden for executions was a Tegel fallbeil.
