Re: Trials in Czechoslovakia
I do not think any of these four were handed over to CZ after being in US custody. Frieske was handed over to the British and still in their custody in 1947. Wettich went home to Glinde. The other two were very minor officials. With others they produced:
US NARA, RG 498 Box 69: USFET Interrogation Report No. 32, 29 Aug 1945: “The German Police system in occupied-Czechoslovakia” by 12 prisoners: Fritz Brandstädter, Kurt Quoss, Fritz Winter, Wilhelm Rüss, Ludwig Seeholzer, Heinrich Noll, Alois Schwenda, Otto Wilhelm Göschl, Robert Waldek, Albert Frieske and Arthur Wettich.

Many thanks in advance!

Hello,
Maybe ansata1976 can help you.
He has mentioned Emil Hampel in several posts on this forum.
It would be helpful if you could confirm Hampels correct date and place of birth.
Regards

Re: Trials in Czechoslovakia
Statements by Sipo/SD officials from the first in 1943 (the case of SS-Hschaf Robert Barth that became a Nuremberg document) until the last not that many years ago ought to carry a "health warning". There is an interesting YouTube video by Christopher Browning in which he identifies these statements and puts them into three categories. I have used the same criteria myself without thinking about it.
1. Statements that are so mendacious and can be discarded.
2. Statements that have truths about what the Unit did - but not what he did.
3. Statements that are self-incriminating.
There is a 4th that I use - what does the consensus say who did what?
Denk's statement falls in to category 2. He did not need to lie because he did nothing. He was classed as militarily unfit due to illnesses in 1938, worked in administrative functions of SD offices, clever enough to pass the SS-Führerlehrgang and commissioned SS-Ustuf but he still did the same job. Just more pay and perks. Mmmm an English expression and in German possibly "mehrere Gehalt und Sondervergünstigung".

Re: Trials in Czechoslovakia
Is there anyway to find out if he comes from Nürnberg or has a family, particularly a daughter named Babette? This is referring, of course, to Rudolph link, who was in the SS and in their rosters, but also worked with Gestapo, and as far as I can tell, spent a little time at Theresienstat concentration camp

Re: Trials in Czechoslovakia
My aunts name is Babette link and comes from Nurnberg. her father, I’m sure was in the service, and I know her brother was too. She came to the United States after marrying my father’s oldest brother. When she came to the United States, she came under an assumed name. That’s what makes me think that her father may have been Rudolph link.

Re: Trials in Czechoslovakia
Mntecristo,
Are you referring to Josef Denk? He was born and lived most of his life (when not on service elsewhere) in Pocking, Krs Passau. Although Bavaria, not really connected to Nürnberg.

Re: Trials in Czechoslovakia
I got SS-Untersturmführer Gützlaff with the SD-Abschnitt Innsbruck in 00.08.1941.
Not sure is it Erwin Gützlaff (2/04/13) 1090-1091 SD or Willi Gützlaff (31/12/13) 1093-1094 SD

Igor
