Theodor Adrian von Renteln (15.09. 1897 - 1946)
After the war, he was captured by the Russians, tried, and hanged for his crimes in 1946

I am interested in more information about place and date of the trial and he execution.

Hello!

I am new to this forum and I wonder if you could help me find some information I have been searching for.

I am interested in Josef Kouba who was a Gestapo leader in Pettau in Unter Steiermark (Ptuj in Štajerska, part of Slovenia today) in 1942. I have just found a post by ansata1976 posted on 07 May 2010 stating that
Josef Kouba 16.03.1911 11.11.1946
was executed by Russians.
It might well be the same person. Is there any more information available about him?

With best regards

@Trekker:

Do you mean Kriminalsekretaer Josef Kouba (1908-2001)? From 9.5. 1941-5.12 1944 in Ptuj?
Chief of the office in Ptuj (Leiter Sipo Pettau)?

Or do you mean Josef Kouba (1911-1946)?

Why are you interested in Josef Kouba?

with friendly regards
I am searching for all kind of information (men, anti partisan action, etc.) about Pettau(Ptuj) branch from KdS Marburg/Drau(Maribor) 1941-1944

Thank you very much for your reply, Waldbruder.

I'm no expert on the topics of this forum. I've been visiting it for some time for curiosity and I've been impressed by amount of data and knowledge obtained by the members.

My focus is actually on my ancestors. I am trying to connect each of my ancestors to historical events of his time and to ordinary people who influenced his life but are not mentioned by history books because their role was »minor«.

So, one of my grandfathers was arrested in 1942 and was held in prison in Ptuj before being shot in Maribor. And I wondered how the war had ended for people who were in touch with him. I found in a slovene newspaper mentioned the memories of a woman who was held in Ptuj prison in 1941/1942 and was interrogated at the gestapo headquarters »by chief of the Ptuj branch Josef Kouba himself.« So I've got his name. My next step was Axis History Forum. And as I can understand from your reply Josef Kouba survived the war. Where did he serve after 5.12.1944? Was he an Austrian? Is there anything else known and available about him? Or about the Ptuj Sipo office?

And their is another person of my interest. It was remembered by my aunt being a child at the time that the chief of Gestapo office in Polstrau – Središče ob Dravi was Hunesch. Now, I cannot be sure if the name was correctly remembered. Is there any information available about the Sipo office in Polstrau – Središče ob Dravi?

I will be grateful for any piece of information shared.

Regards

Re the List of Austrians executed by Russians 1945-1947

I'm guessing these are not all war criminals.

For example : Eva Illing (no. 30) was a Viennese woman who lured a Russian major to her apartment
and murdered him in October 1945. She was executed by firing squad (source = The Canberra Times newspaper)
