Irma Grese at Birkenau

Please could somebody pinpoint for me exactly where Irma Grese worked in Birkenau...i have read that it was in Lager C, the part of Birkenau occupied by Polish Jewish women, and later by Hungarians, but exactly where was this?

From March 1943, Grese worked in Lager A and Lager B of Auschwitz-Birkenau, in May 1944 she was moved to Lager C (women's camp), and by the end of that year to the main camp Auschwitz I.

If I'm not misinterpreting things, Lager C was located at the south end of Auschwitz II, which was used as Durchgangslager (transit camp) in the context of the Ungarn-Aktion. Consequently, it held mainly (Hungarian) Jewesses.

Hello friends!

Irma Grese worked in Lager C (section BII C), as display the yellow rectangle in the map.
At that time of Irma Grese the field was the Hungarian Jewish women's section.

That's very interesting, Marius. Thanks for posting.

I have always thought that A, B, and C corresponded to the construction stages of Auschwitz II, i. e., northern section (first stage, A; the right part of your map), middle part (second stage, B), southern part (third stage, C; the left part of the map).

So, is it correct that Lager C was the women's camp, but that the (female) Hungarian Jews were kept in Lager B?

I am not the most recommended person to approach this subject.
I know the following:
Auschwiz I was "Lager A" and Auschwitz-Birkenau it was "Lager B".
The reference "Lager C" provokes a lot of confusion. In fact, this Lager C, in Birkenau, was
the BII C Section.
Auschwitz-Birkenau it was divided in several sections, such as:
Woman's Camp, divide in "BI A" and "BI B" Sections .
The "BII" Section was divided in:
"BII A" Sectionera Quarantine Camp.
"BII B" Section was Family Camp.
"BII C" Section was Hungarian Womans Camp (it was in this section that Irma Grese worked).
"BII D" Section was Mans Camp.
"BII E" Section was Gypsy Camp.
"BII F" Section was Prisoners Hospital.
"BII G" Section was the Storage.
Finally the "BIII" Section known as "Canada".


In March o1945 Irma Grese it was transferred of the Ravensbrück concentration camp for "Lager A", in other words, Auschwitz I, where it executed several duties, even to be transferred for "Lager B", Auschwitz-Birkenau, where, starting from May 1944, it drove the "BII C" Section (here denominated Lager C). On January 1, 1945 it was transferred again for Auschwitz I where stayed for two weeks when it was transferred for Ravensbrück.

Sure Grisu, sorry that I forgot to mention:
Auschwitz - faschistisches Vernichtungslager, 3. erweiterte u. verbesserte Auflage, Verlag Interpress - Warschau:

Both books I bought at the former Auschwitz I - Camp at the bookshop. These are just 2 examples, I also own many others of the books published by PMO (Panstwowe Muzeum Oswiecim). Primarly in german but partialy in polish as the translated books are allways more expensive.
