Re: Treblinka Perpetrators
Are the troops in the photo SS? One of them seems to have an SS collar patch, but the collar patches of the others look more like Wehrmacht.
Re: Treblinka Perpetrators
It is possible that WH supported the SS in the crimes committed in the area. In Poland it was very common, starting from 1939 WH was absolutely spotless.

Hello Michael and Ponury, michael mills wrote:Are the troops in the photo SS? One of them seems to have an SS collar patch, but the collar patches of the others look more like Wehrmacht.
The "Wehrmacht" soldier are actually Trawniki attached to the Aktion Reinhard and later to Abteilung R wearing the peculiar uniform.
As said by Stefano earlier you would eventually find all the answers to your questions about the uniforms (with around 30 pages dedicated to the uniform topic containing also close ups of the ones worn by Trawniki) and about the armoured trucks of the former Abt. R in our book "Globocnik's Men".
Very best regards
Looking for the Soldbuch of Hptw.d.SchP. Kurt Etowski.
Re: Treblinka Perpetrators
We've just realized that maybe Michael Mills was referring to the soldiers wearing the Ordnungspolizei collar litzen; those are not Wehrmacht too but they are the peculiar - probably non textbook and locally produced - Ordnungspolizei uniforms supplied to most of the Abteilung R men at the arrival in Italy.Tom3277 wrote:Hello Michael and Ponury, michael mills wrote:Are the troops in the photo SS? Re: Treblinka Perpetrators
Does anyone know if there are any post war photos of Willi Mentz? The only ones that I have seen are blurred or from a distance. I knowthis question has been asked before, but am hoping a decent photo may have surfaced since then. Any help would be appreciated

SS–Oberscharführer
SS Number – 276 962
Born on the 18th July 1911 in Vienna. Joined the NSDAP – member number 443,217. Served at Hartheim euthanasia centre. Posted to Sobibor death camp in April 1942, he remained there right to the end.
Wagner was the most feared SS-man in Sobibor, he was called Welfel (Wolf), for a good reason. He hunted and killed many Jews, he had an explosive temper
He mercilessly beat prisoners, he shot prisoners for the slightest infraction, and selected prisoners on the ramp for work commandos. He was absent from the death camp on the 14th October 1943, and the prisoners timed their revolt to coincide with his absence.
After the war escaped to Brasil, but in May 1978, he was discovered by Simon Wiesenthal – the Nazi Hunter. He was imprisoned but his extradition to Germany and Israel failed, and he committed suicide in October 1980, in mysterious circumstances.
SS-Scharführer Wagner, Gustav (SS #276962) member 2/42.SS-Standarte (Berlin)
Re: Treblinka Perpetrators
Were the circumstances mysterious? He was finally threatened with real -time extradition, he would answer for his crimes. Well, he could not stand the pressure and kill himself ...

Jirmann, Fritz
SS – Haupscharfuhrer
SS Number
Born on the 11th January 1914 in Barldorf, Braunau. Belonged to the 318 SS Fuhrungshauptamt 3 Stabkorps. Jirmann was a brutal SS officer in Belzec who spoke to the new arrivals that first they had to take a shower, before going onto a Labour Camp.
Jirmann was a specialist in executing old people and children, and was one of the most feared SS men in the camp according to survivor Rudolf Reder.
Jirmann was shot and accidentally killed by Heinrich Gley in an incident with two Ukrainian guards, at the punishment bunker opposite the Kommandantur on the 1st March 1943, although his death certificate is dated July, which enabled his widow to obtain more money.
He was buried in Tomaszow Lubelski, but in 1995 his remains were moved by the Germans, to a military cemetery in Przemysl.
