Dear gentlemen,

I need your help here.
I've been told this guys is Aktion Reinhard's Franz Novak.
I would like to know his rank if possibile.
I have an Anton Novak but he was killed in Sobibor.

Many thanks in advance

Just a guess because I'm not familiar with that image* but could it be that your -unnamed- source who told you associates Franz Novak with Aktion Reinhard because of his involvement in organizing transports?

* Do you have more info about the proceedings depicted and perhaps the source of the image?

Hello Bluespaceoddity,

Thanks for the reply.
No, I do not think that's just a mistake.
We have two Novak (or Nowak) for the AR, Anton killed during at Sobibor's, and Franz, that seems has been tried after the war.
I've thought at first he was the Eichmann's associated too, but I've found some pictures of him and he is a totally different guy.
A mistery still.

Hello Hecht,
Anton Julius Novak (Nowak) for Sobibor.

Are you sure about the Franz Novak you are after being a completely different person from Eichmann's associate SS-Hauptsturmführer Franz Novak? Picture analyses is a tricky business but I'd say there is some resemblance between the proceedings and people in the image you posted and the photos linked below captioned "Prozess gegen den SS-Verbrecher Franz Novak, Nowak betritt den Gerichtssaal, hinter ihm drei Exekutivbeamte", found here :
http://www.bildarchivaustria.at/Pages/I ... dID=392976

and these as well:
"Prozess gegen den SS-Verbrecher Franz Novak, Nowak bei seiner Aussage vor Gericht, hinter ihm einige Menschen in den Zuhörerbänken":
http://www.bildarchivaustria.at/Pages/I ... dID=392893
"September 1966 - Anklage gegen Franz Novak, als Gehilfe Adolf Eichmanns an Kriegsverbrechen beteiligt gewesen zu sein.
Foto zeigt Franz Novak neben Wachebeamten stehend. Im Hintergrund Staatsanwalt.":
http://www.bildarchivaustria.at/Pages/I ... ID=1304092

Forgive me for repeating myself but since you are asking for assistance I think it might be easier if we had more info about your source for the information and particularly the source or background for the photo you posted. Are you unable to provide those?

Another edit to add a link to the photo you posted from a slide show on the website of the paper "L'Unita":
http://archiviofoto.unita.it/slidefoto. ... 26pagina=1

Personally I think that settles the identity. Curious what other/additional association your source gave you for this man's involvement in Aktion Reinhardt besides being involved in organising transportation.

Hello BSO,

Thanks for the reply.
I have no additional datas about that.
I only know there were 2 Novak in the AR, one, Anton, killed during the Sobibor Revolt, the other one called Franz.
I couldn't find any other info about him.

I've just found this, but he couldn't be Anton since he was killed in 1943 and this picture was taken in Italy.

Passing on some suggestions. It looks like that photo at the YV link you just posted may actually be a photo of Willi Wendland. See for comparison:
http://www.sobibor.info/murderers.html

Also note a photograph of someone named Walter Nowak listed on that site.

Hello BSO,

Now, that's pretty much strange, since this Wenland has a strong resemblance with the person named Walter Nowak on that website.
Now, who is this Walter Nowak then?

I'm lost right now.

Many thanks

Now,

The second guy was ID as Wendland.
Then on the Sobibor link, the one ID as Wendland has little resemblance to the other man (ears are a giveaway), but instead he looks a lot like the Nowak pictured just aside him.

So, what's the matter here?

This is my first time posting here so hopefully I am doing this in the correct place. My Grandpa was Anton Nowak. He was a Nazi and was in the military. My dad was born on October 25th 1943. My Grandpa died about 2 weeks before my had was born. I believe he was in Sobibor

Did you know your grandmother?

and if not does your father have any knowledge of what your grandmother thought of her husband and his crimes?

I'm trying to do research into what the wives of Nazi murderers thought of their husbands crimes.
