Re: Reichsdeutsche oberkapo killed in Auschwtz revolt query?
Close, but not quite. Reichsdeutsche means an ethnically German citizen of the Reich, as opposed to Volksdeutsche, meaning someone who is ethnically German but legally a citizen of another country. Oberkapo means something more like chief Kapo or senior Kapo, a supervisor of other Kapos.

Re: Reichsdeutsche oberkapo killed in Auschwtz revolt query?
Is this perhaps Karl (or Karol) Konvoent, who was said to be German "criminal prisoner" ie. "Berufsverbrecher" and Oberkapo, and was transferred from Majdanek in 16.4.1944. He was stabbed during the revolt, and later, when still alive, was put into an oven by Soviet POWs.

Re: Reichsdeutsche oberkapo killed in Auschwtz revolt query?
I suspected that the person was a Berufsverbrecher, a career criminal, as kapos were often chosen from that category of prisoner. Now, in looking into Karl Konvoent, I found most sources were fairly consistent about his name and the fact that he was German (although that does not necessarily mean Reichsdeutsche). I believe there may be a prisoner registration card for him.
But that name is unusual. Almost every Google hit on "Konvoent" is about this person. The "oe" in his name is still "oe" in German sources; it's not Konvönt, but Konvoent. It seems like a Dutch name or a pseudonym. Does anyone have any further information?
