On April 13 1945 the Nazis evacuated forced labor camps in Leipzig (Shoenfeld, Thekla, etc). Thousands of male and female prisoners were sent on death marches across Saxony (mostly eastbound, towards the advancing Red Army).
I would appreciate information regarding theses death marches. What was the purpose of marching these prisoners? Where were they headed to? Was this just another way to exterminate them?
