During ww1, 20 percent mortality in interment camps wasn't anything unusual. It happened, among others, in Russian, Polish, Austrian camps.
We are talking WW2 here.

What was the mortality rate in US Japanese-American internment camps, or in the British Isle of Man internment camp for German nationals?
The US and Britain were a different world, incomparable with the sands of Africa or destroyed by ww1 and the Russian civil war Eastern Europe.

Its inconceivable that he was not informed by other senior officers even if not on front line duties.
We don't know that, but at worst it was hearsay.
And if he knew, then he had to know that the highest commanders of the Wehrmacht, with strong evidence in hand gathered through the chain of command, were going to intervene in this case.
And it would be highly irregular if he, a lower-rank general, tried to be involved in that with his hearsay.

I don't think he was any better or worse than most other Wehrmacht generals. Some had qualms others didnt. Most stayed out of ‘ politics’ as they saw it.

Yeah, okay. Whatever. I note you don't want to answer the question.
The enemy had superiority in numbers, his tanks were more heavily armoured, they had larger calibre guns with nearly twice the effective range of ours, and their telescopes were superior. 5 RTR 19/11/41
