Pace of guillotine executions

#4937

Post by Pete26 » 28 Nov 2013, 05:51

I believe that the executioner was Johann Reichhart as Vienna was one of his execution sites. Supposedly Alois Weiss took over Vienna executions toward the very end of WWII. 31 people beheaded in one hour would mean about 2 minutes between each execution. This was pretty much a normal pace at which these beheadings were conducted. This execution pace is well documented. I posted numerous execution session exact times for Pankrac prison beheadings and rarely does time between each execution exceed 2 minutes. However, given the large number of people in this Vienna execution case, working at this pace must have been exhausting.

If you read my post on page 319 (notes from Pankrac prison), on 7 December 1944 Alois Weiss beheaded 12 people in 15 minutes in Pankrac prison. This meant only about a minute between each execution, or twice the normal pace.

Here is another execution session at Pankrac prison, where 12 people were beheaded in 17 minutes:
Here is an example of an execution session which started at 1500 hours (3 PM) on 8 July 1943:

Till Jan 15:00

Freisleben Albin 15:01

Veleta Antonin 15:03

Kalus Otakar 15:04

Vacek Frantisek 15:06

Blazek Oldrich 15:08

Navrat Jan: 15:10

Kucera Oldrich 15:11

Turek Karl 15:13

Mensik Frantisek 15:15

Vojcek Frantisek 15:16

Stara Anna 15:17

In this case the only woman in the group, Anna Stara, was executed as the last in the group of 12 people. 12 people were beheaded in 17 minutes!!!!!!!!!!

Vienna Regional Court guillotine

#4943

Post by Pete26 » 02 Dec 2013, 03:43

http://www.klahrgesellschaft.at/Buecher/Gruppe40.html

http://translate.google.com/translate?h ... S:official

According to this source, the Vienna Regional Court guillotine was installed on 22 November 1938. The first person beheaded with the new guillotine two weeks later was Martha (Karoline) Marek. Prior to guillotine installation, executions were performed in the courtyard by hanging.
The history of executions in the Vienna Regional Court I extends to 1873, the date of opening of this prison house back. In the period to 1919 there had executed 97 people in the so-called Galgenhof, ie hanged. During the period of Austro-fascism (1934-38) about 20 people (including the well-known fighter Karl February Miinichreiter, Georg Weissel and Emil Swoboda) were executed in the same way.
After the annexation of Austria by Nazi Germany (March 1938) was initiated (8, Landesgerichtsstraße 11 Vienna) immediately with the establishment of its own execution space within the home. On 22 November, he was ready and equipped with a guillotine. Two weeks later, on 6 December 1938, the first execution of a, according to documents, multiple poisoner (Karoline Marek) took place. But in the series were in this execution chamber until the last execution on 4 April 1945 in the vast majority of murdered people who had offered resistance to the Nazi regime in one way or another, and from the injustice system of the Nazis usually for treason (§ 81) had been convicted. After the war began, the prosecution scenario was more like the so-called military morale, desertion Expanded offenses, which evaluated the blood of Justice as a threat to the existence of Nazi Germany.
Because of treason I 1942 97 people were executed in LG, 1943 226, 1944 180, and in the few weeks of Nazi rule 1945 23
Because the district court was I to 1943, the place of execution and the higher regional court districts of Graz, Brno (until 1940 included the district Znojmo this topic), many Styrian, some castle countries and many Carinthian-Slovene resistance fighters were executed here with the Czechoslovaks explicitly mentioned in this brochure . Members of the German armed forces (who had been convicted of armed forces courts to death) were shot in Vienna on the shooting range in Kagran, but some beheaded in LG I and buried in a row in the group 40. There were probably more than 1,000 people who have been beheaded here. 4 In Kagran were also shot dead by the Supreme SS and Police Court sentenced to death, such as the members of the Vienna fire department Hermann Plackholm and John Zak.
As from the end of 1942 condemned the hanging judge of the Nazi judiciary at a frantic pace, more and more people to death, led this overload of the Vienna guillotine to install more in the Graz Regional Court. (See the article by Heimo Rainer Styrian half as victims of Wiener Blut Justice 1942-43.)

Interesting. The poor fellow was an early victim of the Reich. His executioner would have been Ernst Reindel perhaps?
Guillotine. Nicht richbeil. No longer Groppler. Have to believe someone has an archive of the execution reports and
photographs at the early dates. Maybe lost in the War. Please keep discovering, sending.
This subject obviously has many followers for many reasons. It is unique, important.
Thanks.

Veinna Regional Court execution book

#4947

Post by Pete26 » 03 Dec 2013, 01:43

These are two handwritten pages from the Vienna Regional Court execution book (Sterbebuch), most likely recorded by executioner Johann Reichhart. There are 12 entries on two pages, all 12 people were guillotined in one session on the same day, 30 June 1942. The executions start at 5 o'clock and are over at 5:33. So 12 people are beheaded in just over 1/2 hour period. The average time interval between executions is 3 minutes.

So this is in Johann's own hand? I have never seen this. It does look like his writing. He had a fine, Germanic
script. This is good. Regarding the intervals, Reichhart claimed to be the fastest but was also controlled all the
fine details, so he was very careful. Three minutes was his standard and matches his other records. He later pushed
it but that meant brutally handling the condemned. Excellent document. Danke.

I cannot conclusively state that this is Reichhart's own handwriting because I have not seen any authentic examples of his handwriting. It is also possible that these entries were written by the prison chaplain Eduard Köck, whose name appears in the second column. But this book and its pre-printed entries look official to me. On page 236 I posted a page from Eduard Köck's own diary listing names of executed, and it does not look anything like this book. Perhaps the handwriting is similar? Perhaps he entered the names into an official book afterwards? We know that in Pankrac prison it was the executioner who entered the names of executed into the execution book. I would assume this was also the case in Vienna and elsewhere.
