Johann Gärtner was guillotined at Vienna Regional Court on 8 November 1944.

Der Straßenbahnschaffner Johann Gärtner betätigte sich für die Rote Hilfe und kassierte Spenden für Angehörige von politisch Inhaftierten. Er wurde im September 1943 festgenommen und am 16. 8. 1944 wegen "Vorbereitung zum Hochverrat" vom Volksgerichtshof zum Tode verurteilt. Am 8. 11. 1944 wurde Johann Gärtner im Landesgericht Wien hingerichtet.
Seine Frau Anna Gärtner wurde im gleichen Prozess zu 10 Jahren Zuchthaus verurteilt.

"The tram conductor Johann Gärtner was active for the Red Aid and collected donations for relatives of political prisoners. He was arrested in September 1943 and sentenced to death on 16 8, 1944 on charges of "conspiracy to commit high treason" by the People's Court.
