Beheadings in the Third Reich
Re: Beheadings in the Third Reich
My question is, Whether prison authority has take a photo or not after executive has done ? If yes, where is these photo and who has kept these pictures ? Thanks.
Re: Beheadings in the Third Reich
They used a water hose to clean up after each execution. There would be no blood visible to the next victim, except maybe for acrid smell of blood, which would still pervade the room.alanlee wrote:I believed since Sophie Scholl is girl, so prison provided her a good service, as said, to let her as first person to dead, otherwise, you will witness blood all round the room, which is so horrible. Do you agree?
Re: Beheadings in the Third Reich
No, photos were not taken of beheaded bodies or severed heads after each beheading. However, in the years before the Third Reich beheading was still the most common form of execution in Germany and plaster death masks were sometimes made of the face of the deceased following the execution. In my recent post about execution of Fritz (Fiete) Schulze with an axe, it is mentioned that such a mask was made after his death.alanlee wrote:My question is, Whether prison authority has take a photo or not after executive has done ? It is possible that some photographs were taken of beheaded bodies or severed heads after an execution, but this was not required and certainly was not done for prison record purposes. We have only seen photographs of such bodies and heads after allied armies entered the anatomical institutions, such as in Gdansk (Danzig), Poland, where many beheaded bodies were taken after execution.

Beheaded on their birthday
I have come across two cases of two women beheaded on their birthday. They were Olga Bancic and Anna Muzik.
Olga Bancic was beheaded by guillotine in Stuttgart on her 32nd birthday (10 May 1944) and Anna Muzik was beheaded by guillotine in Vienna on her 52nd birthday (29 September 1943).

Re: Beheadings in the Third Reich
No photographs or motion pictures documenting fallbeil executions during the NZ have surfaced. Both were absolutely forbidden. Considering the presence of RMJ personnel from State Prosecutors to prison guards as well as a physician and at one time, clergy, it is doubtful anyone could get away with taking a photo.alanlee wrote:My question is, Whether prison authority has take a photo or not after executive has done ? We cannot rule out the possibility some clandestine photos were taken after the executions. None have been found to date. A scharfrichter or his helpers
probably would not risk taken a quick photo. They would loose their lucrative jobs and probably be punished.
Anatomical institute people were, for the most part, not allowed to witness executions. I have never seen a photo of the dissection
of beheaded bodies in German anatomical labs either.
Official civilian witnesses, once a group made up of twelve selected citizens of good standing, were issued "entry cards" but not allowed to
carry cameras. Cameras at Plotzensee are mentioned in one fiction novel but that is myth.
Look at the Mannhardt (from Breslau) now in Kiev Museum. A sign opposite it in a case reads "execution place...photography forbidden" but
we cannot link this for sure to this fallbeil.
The photos of the heads and headless bodies at Danzig Anatomical Institute were taken by a writer who accompanied a Soviet inspection
team. The photographs were staged for propoganda effect and motion picture footage was also taken. This is all available on various
websites.
Photographs of the Bavarian fallbeil and execution teams were taken, some prior to an execution. So we do have photos of Kisslinger,
Xavier Reichhart and Johann Reichhart with the Munich Mannhardt. Photographs of executions from this period were either destroyed or
never allowed.
We have two late 19th century photos of an axe beheading which are on this site.
The above is quite contrary to the many photos taken of guillotine executions in France. The history of that and many photos are on the
Bois de Justice site.
Frieda Lehmann

Frieda Lehmann (top of the photo) was sentenced to death and guillotined in Dresden in 1947 for a double murder. Her bones were displayed until 1990 in the German Hygiene Museum in Dresden, then they disappeared.

Frieda Lehmann, who had been infamous as a "butcher of the valley road", had stabbed a work colleague in her home because she wanted her coat. Even the young son of the victim was killed, the body was dismembered, and she distributed the bodies in her kitchen. In the Alaunpark, at the train station.
According to the following statistics, only 2 people were guillotined at Munchner Platz Dresden in 1947.

French guillotine body basket
http://www.marilynztomlins.com/wp-conte ... lotine.jpg
French guillotine wicker body basket was lined with galvanized sheet metal on the inside or with sheet lead to contain the blood. Thsi particular example was supposedly lined with lead. Its dimensions are given as 191 X 83 X 70 centimeters (75 X 33 X 28 inches) and it was large enough to hold three guillotined bodies.
