Thanks Pete for the info! The only problem is that the Viennese policeman wasn´t shot during a robbery or any other crime of the Felony Murder Rule.
And reading the Conny and Dan story (also in your 2nd link) I must admit you have some weird laws over there. Now I understand why many US citizens blame a fleeing suspect who drove away with his car and got chased by the cops (often only for misdemeanor!) and the latter kill innocent persons instead as in every other country the person who actually did commit the manslaughter = the cops.

30March1943list.jpg

https://restituta.at/wp-content/uploads ... k_HP17.jpg

A handwritten list of 15 of 19 people guillotined at Vienna Regional court on 30 March 1943. The list was written by the prison chaplain Eduard Kock.

The names of the executed and times of execution were:

1. Kohut, Ludwig, 1800 hrs

2. Jurica, Emil, 1803 hours

3. Strouhal, Franz, 1805 hours

4. Ondras, Franz, 1807 hours

5. Gebauer, Josef, 1810 hours

6. Wiegand, Friedrich, 1812 hours

7. Fischer, Maria, 1815 hours

8. Ulbrich, Leopoldine, 1817 hours

9. Kafka, Helene, 1820 hours

10. Stix, Friedrich, 1823 hours

11. Kupsky, Ludwig, 1825 hours

12. Slaby, Leopold, 1828 hours

13. Friedl, Josef, 1830 hours

14. Plocek, Johann, 1832 hours

15. Papouschek, Johann, 1834 hours

The last four executed in 30 March 1943 execution session (not on this list) were:

Czapka, Josef

Kodek, Alois

Komarik, Josef

Schmidt, Rudolf

Note the time intevals between each execution. They are only 2 or 3 minutes, therefore very similar to times recorded by the executioner Alois Weiss in Pankrac prison execution book.

The victim number 9 on the list is Helene Kafka, or Sister Restituta Kafka, the only nun beheaded by Hitler. Her body was buried in a mass grave in Vienna Central Cemetery, group 40. The authorities refused to allow her body to be buried by the nuns of her convent.

Here is a photo of the rest of the hand written list with four names on it (victims number 16,17,18, and 19):

Note: Victim number 17 on the list is spelled as "Josef Komarik" in the "Die Guillotinierten" pamphlet, but as "Josef Krcmarik" on this handwritten list and also on the DOEW.at site, so this must be the correct name.

The correct spelled and written name of victim #17 is "Krčmarik".
The Czech letter "č" isn´t the same as the German/English letter "c".
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C4%8C
And victim #16 isn´t Kodek Alois but Houdek Alois.
At least the got the other two names correct.

The execution took place on 16 May 1956 in Dresden, DDR. The article mentions leading the condemned into an execution room, drawing back a black curtain and then placing the condemned on the tipping board. This cannot be right. The Dresden guillotine in 1956 was mounted outdoors inside the execution courtyard of the Munchner Platz Court building. Therefore, it is not likely that there was any curtain, and if there indeed was one, it would have to be a portable curtain, placed in front of the guillotine just for executions. And Dresden fallbeil was a Tegel fallbeil, so it did not have any tipping board.

The executioner was Walter Böttcher. After the blade fell, the executioner's assistants raised the legs of the victim so the severed neck would bleed faster. This same technique is mentioned for Leipzig executions. The fallbeil was moved from Dresden into an indoor execution room in Leipzig around 1958. Certain Stasi officers were forced to watch the executions as a deterrent.

Bruno and Susanne Krüger were both guillotined in Dresden, DDR on 14 September 1955.

https://zeitschrift-fsed.fu-berlin.de/i ... ew/377/360

Kreislaufversagen angegeben.
As Attorney Max Haberkorn Susanne Krüger before the execution in the cell
Once again, she asked to be allowed to see her husband one last time.
This request was rejected by Haberkorn. On September 14, 1955 at
1.45 am, as stated in the enforcement protocol, Susanne Krüger had her hair cut before
the execution. There is no mention of any resistance. At 2:00 AM she was handcuffed and taken to the execution area.
She herself was there in the presence of four comrades of the SfS as well as the chief physician Skrobeck from the institute. The chief again briefly announces the verdict and then handed her over to the executioner. She had some difficulties
also not prepared there. The execution itself took about 3 seconds. "

Bruno Krüger was handcuffed and executed five minutes after his wife. According to the enforcement protocol, he tried resisting "during transport to the execution room, room by ramming his head against the heater.
The resistance was immediately broken with the help of the police truncheon. "

The couple's corpses were cremated the same night and anonymously
buried. The cause of death was on the funeral certificate respectively acute cardiac and
Circulatory failure indicated.

An article about Horst Klinger

Horst Klinger was beheaded in Dresden on 16 May 1956 at 4:20 AM. He was 28 years old.
Mai 1956.
Translated:
The dentist did not want to die. At 4.20 am he was handcuffed and handed over to the executioner. "At the delivery, he tried to make trouble and shouted the word 'freedom'," laconically noted the execution protocol. "He was overpowered and the sentence executed." So happened on 16 May 1956.
Just like Hans Scholl 13 years earlier, Horst Klinger shouted "freedom" just before being beheaded. Both Hans Scholl and Horst Klinger were freedom fighters. Hans Scholl fought Nazi tyranny, while Horst Klinger fought communist tyranny. Both died under the blade of a Nazi guillotine.

Did Bruno and Susanne Krüger, Silvester Murau, Horst Klinger, Joachim Flegel, Kurt Gäbler and Gerhard Rogasch have any link to the Third Reich?
If not why are they mentioned here?
Even if there is a link to the TR, their executions were carried out years after it ceased to exist.
Likewise the many posts that deal with the pre TR era and the posts that deal with similarly detailed hangings are not relevant to this thread.
It seems to me that these people are included only to dwell on the macabre detail of their deaths.

It is one thing to honor the deaths of those who opposed the Nazi regime but quite another to dwell on the minutiae of the actual execution and equipment used.[Even to the extent of posts about model guillotine makers ]
If this level of detail is indeed necessary then perhaps the thread name should be changed to something more encompassing and kept within the time frame of the interest of this forum.
I hesitate to suggest that the name be changed to "Executions in the Third Reich" as I fear that would unleash an orgy of detail about the relative flesh penetrating power of the various calibres of fire arms and autopsy descriptions of bullet riddled bodies; similar to what has been written about beheadings.
Apart from publishing the names and circumstances of those who died opposing the regime I think that there is little else to be added to this topic.

Max

Heinrich Erbstößer

#6701

Post by Pete26 » 22 Feb 2019, 07:47

18 year old Heinrich Erbstößer was beheaded in Wolfenbuettel prison on 29 April 1943. This is another example of "people's pest regulation" death sentence.

The article mentions that by 1937 seven people were beheaded by Butzbach fallbeil in Butzbach prison. After 1937 the fallbeil was moved to Frankfurt Preungesheim prison.

At least 100 people were guillotined in Frankfurt Preungesheim prison. Was the Butzbach fallbeil replaced in Frankfurt Preungesheim prison with a Tegel fallbeil at some point?

According to this article, there were 12 recorded execution in Butzbach prison between 1921 and 1937. The last execution took place on October 14, 1937 in the detention center Butzbach. Wilhelm Eckert, a 51-year-old prisoner, was beheaded by executioner Friedrich Hehr from Hanover. Note that according to the detailed records, Freidrich Hehr performed only one and the last execution in Butzbach prison. The executioner Burkhard from Endingen performed most executions.

The article also mentions that the original wooden fallbeil had to be shortened somewhat to fit into Butzbach prison execution chamber.
