Re: Question About DR Konrad Morgen
Episode 4 of "Auschwitz - The Nazis & The Final Solution" deals with the issue of corruption at Auschwitz. Dr Morgen is featured in this episode, and at the end it transpires that the waregouse containing much of the evidence was mysteriously burnt down! However, this was not before one accused SS trooper who had contraband in his locker hanged himself in his cell.
Items taken from Jews or other enemies were Reich property, not the property of the soldier who found them. There were similar issues with the Kaminski Brigade in Warsaw.
It is interesting that while Dr Morgen pursued Karl Koch and ultimately brought about his execution, he never agreed with the outlandish stories about Ilse Koch such as the lampshades made from human skin. Allegedly Dr Morgen was beaten by the allied soldiers for not telling the court what they wanted to hear.
I would like to ask a question of my own if I may...On the english wikipedia page for Dr Morgen it states that his assistant, Hauptscharführer Gerhard Putsch disappeared without trace during the investigation into Rudolf Höβ and that this may have been a 'warning' to Morgen to lay off the Auschwitz Kommandant. This was not mentioned in the above episode of "Auschwitz", nor IIRC in the accompanying book. I don't personally think SS officers would go round murdering one another, but when one considers the penalties for corruption maybe anything is possible... I wondered if anybody could confirm what happened to Hauptscharfuhrer Putsch? Was a body ever found? Did he turn up post war?
As always, I appreciate your insights.
Kind regards,

Re: Question About DR Konrad Morgen
Sorry for my late response. I think Wikipedia page is wrong: the name of this “disappeared” camp guard isn’t Gerhard Putsch but Gerhard Palitzsch. In fact he didn’t disappear; he was arrested because he was accused of having sexual relationships with female prisoners. He was transferred to the Waffen-SS Polizei Division. He was KIA in 1944. You can read more about his fate here.heimwehr danzig wrote:I would like to ask a question of my own if I may...On the english wikipedia page for Dr Morgen it states that his assistant, Hauptscharführer Gerhard Putsch disappeared without trace during the investigation into Rudolf Höβ and that this may have been a 'warning' to Morgen to lay off the Auschwitz Kommandant.
