hi,
Rnox wrote:Can somebody identify this warship ? 1. Hafen Le Havre - Frankreich - 1942
That's a german destroyer type 1934 A.
AFAIK the only day such a ship entered Le Havre in 1942 was on January 26 when DD's Z 4 RICHARD BEITZEN and Z 5 PAUL JACOBI put ashore the 222 survivors of Z 8 BRUNO HEINEMANN which had been sunk with 93 men by 2 mines the previous day off Dunkirk (the 5th DD flotilla was proceeding westward to Brest to act as a covering force during the "Channel Dash")
So, the solution is destroyer Z 5 PAUL JACOBI on January 26, 1942.

Hi there PB and others!

Why only the PAUL JACOBI?
As far as I can judge it is two different ships,
probably on the same day as you state.
See positioning of siren horns on masts
and other bits and pieces.
Different camouflage patterns.
One appears to have a circle/svastika between anchor chains.
The piers are different too and the distance to the "slanted island"
in the distance. So, the solution should be destroyers Z 4 & Z 5... :mil wink:

hi, Waleed,

Excellent, you are quite right. I'm ashamed that I failed to see that.

Or .. is it possible that the first Le Havre / destroyer picture was added afterwards ?
I don't recall seeing a picture without an ambulance car ...

Anyway, we may conclude that the first ship, with the slightly raised forecastle, is Z 4 RICHARD BEITZEN (type Zerstörer 1934), the second picture shows Z 5 PAUL JACOBI

btw : good to hear from you again !

Does anyone know the identity of this ship? I can see no name or number. There's a (8.8 cm?) deck gun. Location is possibly the Netherlands.

hi,

that's a Fischereischutzboot (Fishery protection vessel), "Elbe" or "Weser", prior to WW II (the eagle on the bridge front was removed in 1939)

The location might be Pommerania or Eastern Prussia, as well.

But the coat of arms, normally mounted shortly afterwards of the anchor, isn´t visible, so it should be an early war time picture.

Thanks! I could never have guessed. I tried http://www.german-navy.de/kriegsmarine/, but no luck.

ETA: the Reichskriegflagge flown by the ship is the type used 1933-35.
