Hello,

Further research on my own question, I found this interesting website: http://navweaps.com/Weapons/WNGER_Main.php.

After long research only the book on the Graf Spey by Siegfried Brayer gives a number for the 105 MM AA ammo storage. He gives a quantity of between 2400 and 3000 rounds. This figures out to between 400 and 500 rounds per barrel. I suspect that the 2400 is peacetime storage while the higher figure of 3000 represents wartime storage. The lower storage in peacetime was practiced by all countries building under the tonnage restrictions of the Washington Naval Treaty to lesson the weight of their ships.

400 projectiles per gun was standard load for all heavy Flak guns. This number excludes a usual war time reserve

Hi,

Thanks Thoddy and Roland 1369. I was curious, because I once saw a figure of 2,477 rounds expended before entering River Platte.

According to M J Whitley's book "German Capital Ships" the figure 2477 rounds of 105 MM rounds represents not the number fired, but the number remaining onboard at the end of the engagement. The 280 MM shells remaining were 306 and the 150 MM was 500 shells. Given the range and targets as well as the placement of the guns the 523 rounds fired is much more credible than almost 500. I feel these figures to be reasonable one of the points made on the battle was the interference to secondary weapon fire control caused by the 280 MM main armament firing.

My old mind is no better. What my post should have said is "523 rounds fired is more reasonable than 2477 fired"
