german hospital ships

Post by HaEn » 12 Dec 2002 05:25

Hi everybody, some time ago there was a thread containing the facts of the German hospital ships that were torpedoed in the Baltic sea in spring 1945. There was supposed to be one that went down 30 january. I can't find it anymore. Tried all kind of keywords under search but can't see the trees for the forest. HELP !!!! Thanks HN.

The ship you are asking about is the Wilhelm Gustloff which was torpedoed by the Soviet sub S-13. It was leaving the port of Gotenhafen with German refugees and soliders and sank in icy waters in less than 50 minutes. 9,343 passengers lost their lives. It has to rank up there as one of the worst sea tragedies in history...yet it remains relatively unknown.

I hope this helps,

Dan
