Artillery landing barges - typ AF. Special, instead of reconstructed from landing barges.

Best regards

Hi Sturm,
adding to earlier information of Alex:
The ships are artillery feeries ( AFP) rather the artillery barges ( MAL)
The photo shows two of AFPs of 6. Artillerieträger-Flottille ( AFP Squadron) in a S-boat bunker in Cherbourg in 1944.
They belonged to Gruppe Karl (Karl - Group) commanded by Oblt z S Otto Karl

Very good identifying, Twilight and bechelaren!
I only think, this cant't be 6 AT Flotille, because this unit have no MFP typ D, as we see on photo. This must be 8 AT flotille and some AF in range AF.97 - AF.112.
And this is 8.8-cm/35 gun, one 3.7-cm/30 and flakvierling on photo.

Thank you very much for your help, Alex, bechelaren and igorr. :D

I am a little confused after reading your answers: Artilleriefährprähme (AFP) or Marinefährprähme Typ D (MFP) ?? :?

Artilleriefährprähme based on MFP typ D - only this prahme have big guns (8.8) with shilds. On photo of course AF typ D1 or D2.

Thanks, again, igorr.

Does you have some more images of Artilleriefährprähme?

flottilla´s coat of arms, visible at the bow, is - as a tradition - being carried by the German navy´s 5th minesweeper squadron

German minesweepers bore name Minensucher. On photo we see Raumboot, much small ship with Diesel engine. AFAIK, this named motor minesweeper in english. Additionaly, Kriegsmarine hasn't any minesweeper squadron. Do you mean 5 R.-flotilla?

No. German navy is the official name of the "Bundesmarine/Deutsche Marine" (since 1955)
