Based on the grid markings on the bow I believe the ship is most likely the destroyer Z 38. It was given to Britain and commissioned into the Royal Navy as HMS Nonsuch. It was used, after technical trials and evaluation, in underwater explosion tests and this would account for the grid markings.

In my opinion the destroyer doesn't show the white ensign, so it cannot be the HMS Nonsuch.
