Thanks, again, Peter...
This is valid only for the period prior Sept.1939, when the funnels were outfitted with a cap....

Hi all,
which ship can be seen here? One of the three is my grandfather in law. I tried to find it myself but it is impossible. Is that the bridge in the background? Shouldn't be there a gun turret where the three men stay?

No doubt it’s her. Here’s a link to similar picture of the Carl Zeiss + link with more info on the ship.

Thank you very much, Waleed...
It seems that this ship was used as AA fire directing training ship as it seem equipped with numerous rangefinders, but no guns....

Well, It is possibly that you are right....In my image the ship only has a searchlight on the foremast (I have only seen photos of Hessen with two) but on the other hand she still has at least one of the 17cm gun side turrets, which eliminates the possibility of a Deutschland class battleship...

Well, it´s definitely a BRAUNSCHWEIG-class and HESSEN was one of them. HESSEN was carrying only one searchlight on the foremast between 1925 and 1929, which perfectly matches with the description.

Thanks, Peter. So, it is the Brummer "II" (ex Norwegian Olav Tryggvason minelayer) as the original Brummer was sunken in 1940.
In the image the armament has been changed from the original 12cm Bofors guns. It can be seen a 10.5cm SK C32 and an 2cm Flakvierling 38 guns in the bow...

I think this is the same ship but yet with his original 12cm Bofors guns. Any idea about the exact Bofors model ?? M1924 ??

Does anyone know on which ship were these photos taken? I was thinking perhaps the Schleswig-Holstein or the Schlesien? The admiral visible on the photo is Konteradmiral Joachim Lietzmann. He was the Commander of Training Formations of the Fleet (08 April 1942-02 March 1943).
