minelayer "Drache"
minelayer "Drache"
I am looking for some information on the minelayer DRACHE. We know that she was sunk by air attack at Vathi, Samos in 1944. Does anyone knows if she was raised or scrapped and when?
Any available photos of the wreck would be most welcomed!

Re: DRACHE
You can also try Warship International 2001 #1. It has an article on Zmaj, also written by Dr. Freivogel.

Re: DRACHE
Can anyone supply a scan of the article on the Drache in Warship International 2001-01? I have tried searching for a copy to buy for the past year or more but have come up empty. Please PM me for my private e-mail address.
Thanks in advance.

Re: minelayer "Drache"
Hello every one,
My grandad (100 years old), Peter Newman was assigned the task of transporting line warfare expert Lt Bernard Cox [...] to the wreck of the German minelayer[...]Drache. They were supposed to secure the wreck before scraping. However, there was an incident and 3 men died.
Please read the full article published by my oncle Tim here : https://paulmaire.ch/samos
All help and information is welcome. I am also interested in laying my hands on pages about the Zmaj/Drache in the book
Can't find the book anywhere.
Thanks a lot.

Re: minelayer "Drache"
Yes, thank you very much I had that link and name.
Bernard Cox "Bertie" and Alexander Toner are two out of 3...
We are looking for the third one?!
It seems the incident is not documented and most people remember the plane attack...

Re: minelayer "Drache"
I don’t know if it’s of any help, but link below mentions ML. 349 and a
“Tempy. Lieut., P. D. Newman 27 Dec 43
R.N.V.R. J (In Command)” and
“Tempy. Sub-Lieut., > P. S. Chapman 14 Mar 44
R.N.V.R. J”. Maybe a missing third name? Might mean something to your grandad.
