Hi
Well this class of DD's were supposed to have five 5in (5x1) but in that picture the number 1 mount seems to be absent, so I'm guessing its been landed for repair or replacement

Gun was dismantled for use in shore warfire by gebirgsjagern.

Hi Igorrigorr wrote:Gun was dismantled for use in shore warfire by gebirgsjagern.
Assuming the 1940 date to be correct! was this gun returned to the vessel after the Gebirgs troops had finished with it-though I thought they would have utilised the guns naval personnel to operate it?

Of course gun was returned after the battle. Further details not known to me.

So thats an assumption on your part which I can understand, rather than a stated fact?

Photos after 1940 shows ships with all guns in places.
Re: What kind of destroyer, Z 4 ?
Perhaps i got it wrong, but as i have understood it it was the torpedtubes that they removed and used on a floating torpedobatterie.Photos after 1940 shows ships with all guns in places.

Not Z.6 for sure. Errr, if we believe to Groener, till the end of war all German DD's has their torpedo tubes in place.
Re: What kind of destroyer, Z 4 ?
Im just refering to the KTB. The torpedotubes was removed and used as a temporary floating torpedobatterie just outside Trondheim. Not sure if it was Z6, ill find out if its important. Added a link from Tore Eggans website, showing the temporary torpedobattery. Not Z.6 for sure. Errr, if we believe to Groener, till the end of war all German DD's has their torpedo tubes in place.

Added part of a photo showing Z6 in Trondheim. As mentioned earlier in this tread the first photo should then be Z6 as stated by Igorr.

Re: What kind of destroyer, Z 4 ?
I don't doubt that. My question revolves around the alleged gun that was removed. For all we know it could have been damaged or destroyed or left behind, and another gun fitted at a later stage-Unless of course your telling me that the same gun was returned after its use on land!igorr wrote:Photos after 1940 shows ships with all guns in places.
