Surface Vessels of the K-Verband

Gentlemen,

On page 177 of the book " Hitler Secret Commandos-Operations of the K-Verband",an unusual plan had come up. "A few weeks before the capitulation,in March 1945 K-Verband Command fitted out a schooner as a Q-Ship for Russian submarines operating between Windau and Memel and the tongue of land known as the Kurische Nehrung. For this purpose the schooner had explosives aboard with which the attacks were to be made. This interesting operation,"Steinbock," was not procceded with." No information of the name of the schooner and its fate are available. K-Verband was never short of imagination to come up with. Make me wonder if K-Verband had a few steam coasters of 100 tons available for secret operations with the MEKs(German Naval Sabotage Units). K-Verband already had a few KFK cutters available to land agents and commandos ashore. You input of this topic is welcome.

Sincerely,

Edward L. Hsiao

There was a photo on Ebay months ago, which showed K-Verband motherships and mini-subs mooring next to each other. These motherships were of the size of small river passenger ships or big river tugs, and were not KFKs.

From memory, I seem to remember that one ex-French schooner made two crossings of the Atlantic to drop agents (in Brazil and Argentina?)

Sid.

P.S. I haven't found the boat's name but the following link might be of interest:

Hello Sid,
i think what you mean are ships used from the "Abwehr" like "KYLOE", "ANNI BRAZ BIHEM" "PASSIM" and "SOIZIC" sailed by Heinrich Garbers and Christian Nisen.

The ships are not from K-Verband.

The link don't work , but when you are looking for Information about Heinrich Schuchmann, Kapt-Lt. Commander of the naval FAK in Belgium and
Holland , take that

Hello bertamingo,
do you remember what kind of "mini-sub" it was?
one possibility could be "DENEB" vessel of LK 250 "Biber"

Hi Beate, my memory is a bit foggy regarding the photo, but they were most likely Bibers. That photo shows several of the purported motherships, one of which was probably Deneb. :D
