How did the Kriegsmarine handle the aspect of relieving flag officers of responsibility for polishing their own shoes, running to the wine merchant ashore and all the similar time-consuming little errands? In particular, did they follow in the British custom of having a personal following of two or three men following the officer from one assignment to the next? At what grade would an officer expect to begin to have such a personal service staff?
