Kriegsmarine, Leutnant Beyer ?

Hello,
I seek to identify an officer of the Kriegsmarine, killed on 4 August 1944 on the liberation of the town of Chateaubriant.
The officer was buried under the rank of Leutnant Beyer. The German convoy arrived from the Rougé road at one o'clock in the morning. It was a naval troop company (50 men), responsible for delaying the advance of the Allies to Chateaubriant.
At the end of the fighting for the liberation of the town of Chateaubriant, there were 25 German soldiers killed.
In my list I find several soldiers of the Kriegsmarine. I found Feldpost in the register of burials. Feldpost 47290 F. Feldpost 47290-E. Feldpost: 18083/40 S. 2 / Ban Ersatztruppen Btl 4. AB - 4975.Feldpost 22640-h. N-43905/18. Feldpost 16014 / 41.Feldpost 47290 / C. N / 1500/39 K. Feldpost: 48002/42 K. Kriegsmarine. Feldpost: 3113/40.

I seek to identify this officer Leutnant Beyer, who commanded the 50 men of Kriegsmarine. He was very active in organizing attacks against the US troop. He was driving with his driver in a 202 Peugeot car. Beyer organizes the counter attack with 75 mm guns. Lewis Beyer is killed with his driver at 10:30.

There doesn't seem to be much known about him in official records - even Volksbund have him listed as just a Leutnant Beyer with no known first name, date or place of birth.

Nachname: Beyer
Dienstgrad: Leutnant
Todes-/Vermisstendatum: 04.08.1944
Todes-/Vermisstenort: i.d.Gem. Chateaubriant

Beyer ruht auf der Kriegsgräberstätte in Pornichet.

Endgrablage: Block 3 Reihe 26 Grab 776

Gentlemen,

How effective were Leutnant Beyer and his naval troops were in delaying the advance of the Allies to Chateaubriant? Were there serious casualties among the US troops? Did the US troops had a hard time putting down these German naval troops?

Sincerely,

Edward L. Hsiao

Hello,
Leutnant Beyer arrived with his vehicles and his 50 men around one o'clock in the morning. Around 5 o'clock in the morning the 4th Armored Armored Division of the 8th Corps of General Patton) commanded by Colonel Dager is heading south on the Rennes-Nantes road. In reality the Americans arrive by another route, taking the Germans back. At 11 o'clock in the morning, the town was freed, five US soldiers were killed, a sixth wounded died on 13 August.
