I know that the S-boats continued to sink Allied merchant ships in 1944 and 1945 until the end of WWII for Germany. I know that the German big gunned surface ships were used for shore bombardments in the Baltic Sea area and had didn't encounter any Allied merchant shipping in 1944 and 1945. M-boats I don't know. But it seems that all the books that I read about Kriegsmarine surface actions against enemy merchant shipping in 1944 and 1945,only the S-boats were that active until the end. Right?

Appears so Edward. Looking through Rohwer's book do not see any except S-boats.

hi,
ref Thread-title : neither the mini-subs Seehund and Biber nor the self-destroying Linse were, by definition, "surface ships"
greetings, the pb
