As the ship passed the torpedo battery at Nordre Kaholmen, Blüchers speed was calculated to only 7 knots. 2 torpedoes were launced and both found it`s target soon afterwards. Water filled up the engine room, and the ship was not moving anymore.
Here is a photo of the rather simple but effective "aiming device" which was used on 9. April 1940 to sink the Blücher. Currently on display at the Oscarsborg museum.

Hello to all :D; more: Indienststellung of the Schwere Kreuzer Blücher.

On September 20, 1939, a few days after the outbreak of war, the German Navy was able to put its newest and most modern ship into service. With the commissioning a heavy cruiser like the "Blücher" is by no means ready for use. Workers and specialists from the shipyard still have to stay on board and monitor the testing of the ship and its equipment. Repeated visits to the shipyard are very often necessary to remedy the deficiencies identified.

In addition, a large part of the crew of the "Blücher" was still very young and had not yet had much experience in warfare on thick ships. Even in peacetime, it took a few months before a new crew "took possession" of their ship and the vessel and crew became one unit.

hi,

a very minuscule addendum :

The correct translation for the German "Kommandant" is not "Commander" (an officers` rank in the RN and USN) but "Commanding Officer (CO)"

Hello to all :D; more: KTB of the Schwere Kreuzer Blücher.

November 13, 1939: 09:30 hours, Kiel, SSW 1 wind, casting off buoy A 8, set sail for inspection navigation. 13:16 hours. Anchored in Friedrichsort.
November 14, 1939: 09:45 hours, Friedrichsort, foggy, SW 2-3, anchor, shooting with 20.3 cm and 10.5 cm guns, 17:34 hours anchored in Friedrichsort.
November 15, 1939: 08:00 hours, Friedrichsort, SW 6-3, weigh anchor, NEK test (Nachrichtenmittel-Erprobungs-Kommando) communications system.
November 16, 1939: 15:00 hours, Kiel, SW 5-2, entering, moored to buoy A 9.
November 17-26, 1939: Kiel. Repair work on the machine system for EEK test (Erprobungskommando für Kriegsschiffneubauten) Test command for new vessels.
November 27, 1939: 16:00 hours, Kiel. Casting off buoy A 9, set sail for navigation in the eastern Baltic Sea. 21:50 - 22:03 hours. Passage through the Gedser-Enge dam.
November 28-30, 1939: Eastern Baltic Sea, SW 5-10, fuel tests
November 30, 1939: 08:35 hours, S 2-5, fog, therefore, anchored in the roadstead of Pillau. 10:55 hours. cloudy and gusty, improved visibility. Raise anchor, fuel test sailing. 16:30 hours opposite Gotenhafen, very cloudy. Swell 3, SW 6-8. At anchor, because outside Danzig Bay it is not possible to carry out measuring navigations due to the sea. 20:24 hours ready to sail, good visibility, bright full moon night. Weighing anchor as the ship is silhouetted against the illuminated city like a dark silhouette. Round trip in Danzig Bay. At 22:50 hours on grid 9824 U, the listening station reports propeller noises, allegedly from electric motors and the extension of a periscope. Radio message 23:55 hours to the BSO Pillau Command: "22:50 hours, grid 9824 detected noises supposedly due to a submarine." Since there was a possibility that an enemy submarine might have entered Danzig Bay, it was sailed out of Danzig Bay. Navigation test of the ship at sea. At sea WNW 9, swell 5.

Hello pb :D; I don't know, the exact word is Entgasungsversuche, does not sound like degaussing. Maybe you have a clearer concept of the term in German. TIA. Cheers. Raúl M 8-).

the exact word is Entgasungsversuche,
If that is so, the term degassing is quite correct.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Degaussing is something quite different, but normal for a warship, hence my insertion
