After the conquest of Yugoslavia and Greece, the German Navy established a regional commander-in-chief – Marinegruppenkommando Süd (Navy Group Command South) – in Sofia, Bulgaria to control German naval activities in the Balkan area. The commander-in-chief of Navy Group Command South had three commanding admirals subordinated to him that oversaw German naval activities in the major bodies of water under their control:
• Commanding Admiral Adriatic Sea (HQ at Abazzia, Italy – today, Opatija, Croatia)
• Commanding Admiral Aegean Sea (HQ at Athens, Greece)
• Commanding Admiral Black Sea (HQ at Constanta, Romania)

On 1 January 1945, the command incorporated the former post of Navy Command Italy and was designated Marineoberkommando Süd (Navy High Command South).

Commanders-in-Chief of Marinegruppenkommando/Marineoberkommando Süd:
• Admiral Karlgeorg Schuster: 31 June 1941-December 1941
• Generaladmiral Wilhelm Marschall: December 1941-March 1942
• Admiral Karlgeorg Schuster: March 1942-20 March 1943
• Admiral Kurt Fricke: 21 March 1943-11 December 1944
• Unknown: 11 December 1944-1 January 1945
• Vizeadmiral Werner Löwisch: 1 January 1945-1 May 1945

You can view an organizational chart of the command at this website:

Foreign Neck Orders

Post by Edward L. Hsiao » 09 Jan 2004, 02:19

Hi Folks:

I wonders if all these admirals that were mention above had gotten a foreign neck decoration of some kind from Germany's axis allies. I had been getting a "sore throat" lately. A "sore throat" means trying to get a neck order of some kind besides the Knight's Cross.

Edward :)
