A visit to former KZ Mittelbau-Dora
Mittelbau-Dora was a subcamp of Buchenwald concentration camp in Nazi Germany.
After the rocket site Peenemüne was bombed by the allies, the rocket production of the V 1 and V 2 Vergeltungswaffe
was shipped over to Mittelbau-Dora.
Camp inmates had already made a large tunnel complex in the Kohnstein hill which was used to store fuel for the Wehrmacht.
After the bomb attack on Peenemünde, the SS used about 10.000 camp inmates to enlarge the tunnel complex, to house the
production of the V 1 and V 2 here at Mittelbau-Dora.
I would like to start this photo thread with the inside of the tunnel complex which can only be visited with a tour guide.

A 3 dimensional iron model of the Kohnstein hill with it's tunnel entrances and the camp itself.
The pipes sticking out of the Kohnstein hill represent a part of the long tunnels and its side connections.

Some display signs with text near the tunnel entrance.
Throughout the tunnel system what is open to the public they have build a gallery walk path.
Next to the walkway, all kinds of metal rocket material is left where it layed.
Most of it is not to be recognized.

First image shows a part of a connection tunnel under water.
The second image shows a lot of gyroscopes which where used on board of the V 2 rocket.
The third image shows a part of the inside of the horizontal fin of the V 1 rocket. (aluminum part with 2 holes)

KZ Mittelbau-Dora Tunnels with a brick wall in the first image.
The second image shows a toilet room. Since you may not leave the walkway gallery i was not able to get a closer shot, but if you look closely you can see a couple of toilets in the middle of the photo.
