Re: Translation Requests
Taki,
Would you be interested in translating three sections of this article- "Last landing at Lae" on Page 145, "Supply to units that crossed the Saruwaget" on Page 146 and "War service of I-38 submarine" on Page 147? If you can do this then I will send you a copy of my book on the war in New Guinea "Hell's Battlefield".
You can also contact me on email at [email protected].
Thanks again for your help,
Phil

Re: Translation Requests
Can anyone translate this name? I believe the family name is KONNO, but I can't seem to get the first name. He's an IJN officer, perhaps a Special Duty officer. TIA for any help!

Re: Translation Requests
Here are two hand stamps on a Japanese Military Money Order - I am sorry that the first character is badly over inked and may make it untranslatable

Thank you vary much Taki-san
Re: Translation Requests
Stu - If you know the origin and destination of the money order it might provide some clue to the meaning of "sen ka."

Re: Translation Requests
The origin was Balikpapan in Netherlands East Indies and destination Hsinchu Formosa in June 1942 or Sorong in Netherlands New Guinea also to Hsinchu Formosa in December 1943 -- These are quite scares as the Post Office was suppose to keep for accounting - but it appears the Hsinchu Formosa Post Office was raided and files were taken
Re: Translation Requests
It might be an abbreviation of 戦争地域から (SENsou chiki KAra)(from war area) or something similar, but that's a SWAG. I've looked at the same postal handbooks that you have and there doesn't seem to be any info on this.
