1st Despatch Squadron of 1927

What was the composition of the 1st Despatch Squadron of 1927. I have it as being created on February 5th and existing until 3 June 1927. A New York Times citation of Feb. 6th identifies Tenryu with 4 unnamed destroyers and 300 men sailing from Kure to Sasebo, with Tenryu later cited as proceeding to China on the 19th. This is a very active time with significant activity at Nanjing in late March 1927 and at Hankow(Wuhan) early April and withdrawal of citizens from Changsha and Chongqing. Many thanks in advance.

Hello jerryasher,

I guess you meant 第1遣外艦隊 Dai-ichi Kengai Kantai 1st Dispatch Fleet. If so, the composition of it on 1 December 1927 was as the below.
- YAAGI, TONE, ATAKA, FUSHIMI, SUMIDA, SAGA, SETA, KATADA, HIRA, HOZU, TOBA, 24th Destroyer Division (MOMO, YANAGI, KASHI, TSUBAKI), URAKAZE

The below is the history of 第1遣外艦隊. Does this match the information you have?
- Activated as 7th Squadron on 15 December 1917.
- Renamed into 遣支艦隊 Kenshi Kantai China Dispatch Fleet on 10 August 1918.
- Renamed into 第1遣外艦隊 on 9 August 1919.
- Renamed into 11th Squadron on 20 May 1933.

Thank you Fontessa: I didn't realize before that First Dispatch Fleet was a rather permanent organization and not just a temporary formation. I think I am interested in its composition as of 1 December 1926. I assume Yahagi and the river gunboats. I have the Momo as being at Nanjing on March 24th when the Japanese consulate was attacked and there was at least one sailor killed. As above. the Tenryu was assigned on February 5th. Also the Isuzu and Sendai were assigned on March 3rd. The 18th Destroyer Division--Amatsukaze, Isokaze and Tokitsukaze was at Hankow(Wuhan) in early April and the 16th Destroyer Division (ships unnamed) was sent to Shanghai. Many thanks for your assistance.
