P1Y1
P1Y1
Looking for Ordnance load out options for the P1Y1, the image below suggests two 500KG's as one option, but there must of been options for:
800 kg
250 kg
60 kg bombs
And of Course the Torpedo, Presumably a Type 91 Mod 4 or maybe a Type 91 Mod 7 could of been carried ?
Also were drop tanks standard on all Variants ? ( 300 L ?)

Re: P1Y1
O- WoW, that's interesting.
No provision for Carrying 60 kg bombs is curious.
And Internal bomb bay drop tank option's for two additional 315 L tanks for ferry flights or patrol/search.
Is that 385 L tank at the rear of the bomb bay also in leu of Bombs or standard ?
Torpedo's- Some of the Late war Japanese Torpedoes' did weigh over 800 kg is why I asked about those specific models.
Type 91 Mod 4 was about 927 kg for instance and the Type 91 Mod 7 1050'ish kg.
Thanks

Hello Brady,
爆弾倉には魚雷や爆弾の代わりに内蔵式の増加燃料タンクも搭載可能だが、一式陸攻の様に30 - 60kgの小型爆弾を多数搭載することは出来ない。
The bomb bay can be equipped with a built-in drop tank instead of torpedoes and bombs, but Frances cannot carry many small bombs weighing 30-60 kg unlike Betty could do.
Since Mod7 Warhead was powerful warhead for Land-based Bombers, Frances could carry Type91 Mod3 with Mod7 Warhead.

What is “in leu of Bombs”?
Strictly speaking, above “Mod4” and “Mod7” werw types of warhead. Body type of them was Mod3. See the below diagram.

Hello Brady,

Below shows how Betty carried 60kg bombs. Japanese Wiki says Frances couldn’t carry 60kg bombs this way. Because she couldn’t increase the two Mounting Racks. In other words, whether 500kg bomb or 60kg bomb, Frances could only carry two bombs at the same time. Perhaps it wasn't supposed to be the mission of her to disperse many small bombs.
When this tank was used, Frances could carry only one bomb weighing less than 250 kg.

Re: P1Y1
Hello Brad,
The below shows the variation of mountable weapons for Nell, Betty and Frances.
The Torpedo was said Type91. According to 702nd Attack Squadron War Diary, Betty could carry Type91 Mod3 Body with Mod7 Warhead.

Re: P1Y1
Hello Brady,
I found two interesting modifications (1) and (2) for Frances belonged to 401st Attack Unit Taiwan Detachment / 765th Naval Air Group. These modifications were conducted in 61st Naval Air Depo in Taiwan to attack the US military at Lingayen airfield. The below refurbishment was curried out during January – February of 1945.
(1) Installation of a bomb rack for 12 - 60 kg land bombs
The mission of Frances was not supposed to disperse such large numbers of small bombs. Probably the one used by Betty was installed.
(2) Refurbishment to what is now called gunship by the installation of 10 - 20mm machine cannons.
Provably this refurbishment was applied to 2 Frances (765-63 and 765-78). It is interesting, but the detail is unclear. So the followings are my guesses. “20mm machine cannons” were attached to the bomb bay. These may have been Type 99 Mod 1 20mm machine cannons with 60-round drum magazine. The observer in the nose cockpit carried out aming and shooting with the aid of some kaind of firing sight.
Seneral times the attack to Lingayen airfield were cullyed out on the bigining of March oh 1945. Eight Frances were put in on 20 March 1945. Unfortunately, at this time, Japan's flight and maintenance skills were declining, and it was not possible to obtain sufficient results.
