110th Cavalry Regiment

Post by wdgysin » 12 Feb 2024 14:17

Hello all;

I am working on my IJA database and have tried to get information on the 110th

Cavalry Regiment. I have searched over JACAR, Japanese Yahoo, Chinese Baidu

and other databases to try to find information but have come up short. I can

confirm that it existed, but that's about it. Does anyone have the date & location

of its formation, as well as commanders, number of men, structure &

organization and deactivation location and date. Also any history of actions

& movements would be appreciated. In some sources it is listed as a squadron

(battalion sized). Any info would be helpfull; please include the sources also.

It is not 110th Cavalry Regiment, but 110th Cavalry Battalion. It was formed as cavalry of 110th Division in 1938. It consisted of HQ, 2 cavalry companies and 1 MG platoon. The commander was Lt. Col. Kenzo Ishizawa. It served in North China and participated in several operations such as 晋南作戦, 晋中作戦, 中原作戦. It was disbanded in 1943.

The source is "日本騎兵史" 原書房.

Hi,

Taki, of course, is correct, it is the 110th Cavalry Battalion. Try googling 騎兵第110大隊 for more results.

Kind regards,

VJK

Thank you Taki and VJK. I had seen it called a battalion but wasn't sure if the regiment was downgrared at some point. I found a listing at the Shirakaba personell database.

I found detailed information on the net.

According to it, the commander when the battalion was formed was Lt. Col. Seki Tanabe(田邉積). Lt. Col. Kenzo Ishizawa was later commander. The battalion had 451 men and 431 horses.

Great stuff Taki, Thanks. I don't know why this site didn't come up for me before when I searched
Japanese Yahoo for 騎兵第110大隊....maybe I didn't go far enough in the page results. Anyway,
Thanks again.
