Looking for information on a Medical Officer named SATO Takeo 佐藤武夫. I have three people with that name. One I know is a different person because he is a LTJG (Med.) who was Surgeon of 63rd Specially Established Subchaser Division from 17 March 1943 - 10 August 1943.

The other two I'm thinking might be the same person. One was apparently commissioned in 1930 and the other in 1932. If I combine what I have service record-wise for both, it looks like this (lines in bold italics are for the officer commissioned in 1930):

LTJG (Med.) - 01 December 1932
ATAMI Surgeon - 15 November 1934 - 15 October 1935
LT (Med.) - 15 November 1935
DesDiv 7 Surgeon - 15 November 1935 - 02 November 1936
SHIRETOKO Surgeon - 02 November 1936 - 08 February 1938
KINUGASA Surgeon - 08 February 1938 - 29 June 1938
(ADD) CHOGEI Surgeon - 20 May 1938 - 25 June 1938
ISUZU Surgeon - 01 August 1939 - 15 November 1939
(ADD) KITAKAMI Surgeon - 01 August 1939 - 15 November 1939
3rd Base Force Surgeon - 10 September 1941 - 10 April 1942
LCDR (Med.) - 15 October 1941
3rd Special Base Force Surgeon - 10 April 1942 - 15 June 1942
ASHIGARA Surgeon - 01 November 1943 - 30 January 1945
CDR (Med.) - 01 May 1945

So is the above correct, or were they two different people. The name SATO Takeo does sound like a fairly common name. If they're different people, is the kanji name written differently, or is it the same for both?

TIA for any help in clearing this up!

I have a slight conflict with the record for I-179. According to my records, this is what is listed for her Chief Engineers:

(EO) - LCDR OMICHI Kiyonori 大道清紀 (Eng. 45) - 20 March 1943 - 18 June 1943
LCDR OMICHI Kiyonori 大道清紀 (Eng. 45) - 18 June 1943 - 14 July 1943

I-179 was lost with all hands in an accident on 14 July 1943, meaning that OMICHI should be one of those dead. However, he is apparently listed as Chief Engineer of I-32, I-38, and I-13 later on, before ending the war as Overhaul & Replacement Officer of 12th Assault Unit.

Apparently, he was relieved as Chief Engineer of I-179 before the fatal accident, but by whom, and on what date was he relieved? Or did providence somehow shine on him and he was the sole man to escape I-179 as she sank? TIA for any help in clearing up this confusion.

He was appointed Engineer Officer of I-32 on 1 September 1943 and he was previously attached to the 11th Submarine Squadron HQ. It can only be assumed that he had left I-179 before her sinking.
