I am trying to translate a Japanese letter from WWII, but am struggling with some characters. For some context: the letter was intended for a man stationed in Burma; it is accompanied by a letter (not in folder) written by the man's primary-school-aged son. The child's letter mentions an aunt so this adult letter may have been written by her.
I understand the letter in parts - the writer talks about the child (I think his name is Katsuo) and how he is faring with school - e.g. she is trying to instill good study habits, he gets embarrassed about singing on his own... But I haven't quite been able to string the whole thing together, as there are several characters that I haven't been able to make out. I was hoping someone here might have more experience reading handwritten Japanese. I have uploaded duplicate photos with troublesome characters circled.
I have also uploaded the envelope the letters came in, as I would like to know the first name of the soldier(?) (I can make out the surname of Kawada) and where exactly he was stationed (though to be honest I haven't put much effort into translating the envelope so far).
Any pointers, however small, would be very welcome
