Regarding my previous request re TSUJI, I just came across the same photo identifying him as TSUJI Kunisuke - 辻 邦助. Mystery solved!

Could I get some help with context on the following kanji?
短期現役兵
My understanding that it is read as "short term active duty soldier" and they had a limit of 2 years on active duty. Did these soldiers tend to serve terms that were much shorter, like 3 or 4 months? Did it depend on the type of duty required? Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

短期現役兵 is the privilege of public primary school teachers. They served at the army in 6 months and became reservist.

It appears to say "O 20309". To note there is no such thing as "SNLF canteens", just navy canteens, which were used by all sorts of units in the navy including SNLF.
