Here is another view of the same Type 95 light tank knocked out near Shuri, at Okinawa -- both photos implying a pictorial series of this scene. Two others are visible at rear, and the Marine standing on the trail between them here may be the same one seen close up in Taki's photo gallery:

from Masahide Ota's This was the Battle of Okinawa, (Okinawa, Japan: Naha Publishing Co, 1981), page 59

============================

What are the formation markings on the tank shown earlier -- a rectangle with diagonal on the tank knocked out in the sand at Guadalcanal, and the three-pointed emblem on the armor plate blown off a tank at Peleliu?

The tank photographed at Saipan seems to have Japanese written along the side of the hull. Is it readable?

"どんりう"* (Donryu) - Swallow dragon
It is the personal insignea of Captain Yoshimura, the 4th company commander of 9th Tank Regiment.

* On tank, it was written from right to left in old Japanese.

One of the three Japanese tanks found on Kiska, a Type 95 captioned in volume 4 of Stan Cohen's good photographic history of the Aleutian defenses, The Forgotten War (Pictorial Histories Publishing Co, 1981), page 166:

There is a high chance that it is the very same Type 95 displayed "in captivity" nine posts above this one, as suggested by the captions.

As found, it appears to have a remnant of netting draped across it. What unit had they likely belonged to? Would there have been some more than three?

I believe that they were navy tanks. Three would be all of them.
