Shimushu tanks?

#1

Post by Peter H » 21 Jan 2009, 09:58

I don't know if this is Shimushu or Karafuto.

Shimushu had the 11th Tank Regiment there in 1945:

But there was no tanks on Karafuto?

What are these tanks?

Hi.

Which unit did the type 2 amphibious tanks belong to?

I only know that IJA 11th tank regiment was stationed on Shimushu. Afaik there were no amphibious tanks issued to IJA.

Thanks Taki.

Gordon Rottman states a SNLF tank unit was sent to Shimushu(1943/44?).This would have been before the 11th Tank Regiment was deployed there in 1945.

Obviously without floats.

For a 9 ton tank they look big. :)

And with 6 crew.

Last two photos are made at southwest coast of an island Shimushu in 2004
They are on Shimushu and Horomushiru Islands.
To what group of naval forces they could belong?

Excuse, English bad because I use by the interpreter.

Prompt please, how many tanks were at them available and whether there is an information on participation of these units in fights?

There were 16 Ka-Mi tanks. They were deployed at the southwest of the island, the opposite side of the Soviet landing place. So, they were not involved in the fight.
