Japanese officer Malaya
Hi,
This photo shows a Japanese officer in Malaya in around 1942 with a fan. Could he be Lt-Gen.Takuro Matsui the 5th Division commander?

Hi Zaf,
You'll find a pic of Matsui Takuro here: http://imperialarmy.hp.infoseek.co.jp/g ... sui03.html
I also have this pic, though unfortunately I can't find my original source.
Best regards,
VJK

Re: Japanese officer Malaya
Thanks Peter that might be right. I thought it was in Malaya due to the surrounding environment with soldiers all around look like front line at a rubber estate in Malaya.I thought that he was the commander of the 15th Army in Burma which means he would be a Lt-General mostly behind front line and not be in the front line of the battlefield. Many Lt-Generals often being in the front line with the ordinary solders. He wore a tropical lightweight uniform with puttees which I didn't see many such officers commanding an army wore, which usually the standard general officer's uniform such as M98 pattern service uniform with leather boots. It might be because it was in the tropics where these uniforms was more prevalent.
The other person might be a military journalist because he also wear a tropical lightweight uniforms usually worn by ordinary front line soldiers and I think he have a rank with three stars on the collar partially covered by the helmet strap which possibly be a Superior Private rank.
Regards
Zaf
