The first photo is surgery vehicle. The second photo is probably hydrogen gas generating vehicle. I have never heard of their designation.

For observation balloons?

I have read very little of the use of Observation Ballons, in the war, were they used much at all in the SRA or the SWPA?

Not only for observation balloons, but for general balloons.

Observation balloons were used in the battles of Singapore and Bataan & Corregidor. But, there was no chance to use them after that.

It is 保護6輪(Aided 6-wheeled truck) Sumida UH/Chiyoda JH. IJA aided the civilian sale of military 6-wheeled trucks to use them at wartime. It was called 保護6輪. Sumida UH and Chiyoda JH are the same truck which was the civilian model of Type 94 6-wheeled truck. It extended a loading platform to fit with civilian purpose to load a lot of cargoes.

Hi.

A related but different topic:

At the moment I´m working on IJA and IJN soft-skinned transport vehicles and I´ve learned a lot so far. But there are still several questions, e. g.:

1. Are there any data which IJA unit was the first fully motorised unit?
2. Which unit was the first IJA Motor Transport Unit an when was it ready for operations?

Yours

It is 1st Independent Mixed Brigade. Read my book.

2. Which unit was the first IJA Motor Transport Unit an when was it ready for operations?

1st Motorcar Unit(第1自動車隊) is the first IJA motor transport unit. It was formed in 1918 and sent to Siberia in WWI.

There is no data about the production number of Type 1 Truck. Isuzu sold approx. 9,000 trucks to Army and Navy between 1943 and 1945. They were mostly Type 1 Trucks. So, Type 1 Truck was produced in 9,000 copies at least.

No

The letter on manufacturer plate is unclear so that I cannot read it.
