IJN Fleet locations 24:00 5 June 42

Am searching for the locations and course of the various components of the Japanese fleet near Midway the night of 5 June. Specifically when they received the order to withdraw west. Nothing on my shelf has more than a few large red arrows. If anyone can point to as source, or enable my laziness & provide a chart or data indicating location, course, and speed I'd be grateful

Thanks

Have you read Parshall & Tully's Shattered Sword? That is more than likely the most credible source of info on the Battle of Midway out there today.

Thanks.

Does that place it at 06:55 or 07:55 Midway time? On the current TZ chart it looks like a 3-4 hours difference depending on which TZ Midway is counted in.

Bump

Still searching for accurate information on this subject. A friend & I are trying to extrapolate from assorted sketch maps, but the results are not satisfactory.

Thanks, that helps immensely. It looks like the reversal did not occur simultaneously with different groups. The times shown need some clarification. They look like local time.

Glad to be of help.

As for the times - there is a time zone mentioned at the right bottom corner of the map.

The Japanese Navy used Tokyo time. The US Navy used Greenwich Mean Time. Both used local time in some situations. This allows for a great deal of confusion when trying to convert the original source materials to local time in order to present a coherent narrative. I suspect that many authors have gotten it wrong.

I can see that. Intend to match sunrise times as one cross check. Comparing time recorded times for air strikes would be another,. Tho less precise.

Had time to revisit this question today; The illustration below suggest one possible route the combined 2d Fleet would take after rendezvous with the Mobile Force around 02:00 . I'm searching here for any better ideas on Yamamotos intent/plan for the 2d Fleet had he continued his efforts to engage battle.
