How many of this type of booklet are out there?
How many of this type of booklet are out there?
I recently found out that a memorial booklet to the fallen of Attu was published in Japan during the war (1944). The title of the booklet is 山崎軍神部隊 and was published by Asahi Newspaper. The booklet has pictures of those who died during the battle, and information includes the name, rank, and address of each soldier. Does such a booklet (or booklets) exist for other garrisons/battles of the war and have names/info. of the soldiers/sailors who fought in those battles? Any help is greatly appreciated.

It is a special case, because they were admitted as 軍神(Gunshin - war gods). Gunshins were reported in detail by media like Nine Gunshins at Pearl Harbor attack.

This booklet also has biographical articles about the senior leadership at Attu and a portrait of nearly every Japanese soldier, officer and enlisted alike. An amazing resource!

Hello gentlemen,
Lately I have stumbled on digitalized pages from the booklet, I think. I'm enclosing the 2 I'm interested in most - 12 and 13. My request is this. Can You identify any officer on those pages. Maybe You have them in better version. Mine, in printed version, are unreadable. Kanji signs are one blur. In electronic picture version, signs are too small to read. I think I've identified 2 of them - cmdr. Emoto - 海軍少佐・江本弘 - only IJN officer on page, and mjr. Watanabe - 陸軍少佐・渡辺 - [down left on p. 13].
Regards,
Marek

Dear Taki,
Thank You very much for Your help. I've identified almost every unit those officers were commanding. I have 2 additional questions/requests. 1st - on few pages of the booklet some pictures of the soldiers are missing, like on that I'm enclosing. Did editor of the booklet explained that somehow? 2nd - maker of the original scan from the booklet "cut off" almost full head of col. Yonekawa. Could You enclose any complete picture of him? Thank You very much anyway.
Regards,
Marek

No. But, it is apparently because the editor could not obtain their photos.
