Naval Torpedo Repair Unit?

#1

Post by marek O. » 11 Sep 2017, 19:06

Hello, gentlemen

I have another questions partially in connection with Taiwan in WW2.

I've found 2 units
第三十四魚雷調整班
第三五魚雷調整班, which my internet translator translated as 34th [Okayama, north of Tainan] and 35th Naval Torpedo Repair Unit [Shinchiku]. Similar unit [37th NTRU] is in my Okinawa Naval OOB. Then I've found next one - 46th NTRU in Base of Pusan.
My questions are:
1st - did my internet translator did it correctly - is it really Naval Torpedo Repair Unit?
2nd - have You any idea if there were other units like that and where were they stationed?

Regards,
Marek

Repair is not correct translation. It should be translated adjustment. Before using torpedo, careful and complicated adjustment was necessary. It was beyond the capability of airfield ground crews and special unit called 魚雷調整班 was formed. It adjusted torpedo and attached it to airplane. 魚雷調整班 existed at many naval air bases in Japan, Taiwan, Philippines, Indonesia etc.
