When sunk Kamitsu Maru was no longer an auxiliary gunboat. She had become a general miscellaneous transport (Tokusetsu Zatsuyokan) on 20 May 1945.

Yes.
In chronological order:
CAPT YAGI Kyugo was KIA on 6 April 1945
Kamitsu Maru was reclassified from Auxiliary Gunboat to Auxiliary Transport on 20 May 1945
Kamitsu Mar was torpedoed on 24 June 1945
Kamitsu Maru sank on 26 June 1945
* The detail of CAPT YAGI Kyugo KIA is not clear.

Hello Fontessa,

At the moment I have no data related to an air attack or submarine attack on the auxiliary gunboat Kamitsu Maru on or shortly before 6 April 1945. Same for friendly fire or a collision with another vessel. However a cargo vessel with the same name was sunk in an air attack on 4 April 1945 in the South China Sea. Maybe the two ships are mixed up somehow.

Regards,

Berend.

CAPT YAGI Kyugo (42) was KIA as CO of 2nd Picket Boat Division on 06 April 1945. Aboard what vessel was he KIA? TIA for any info.
He boarded 特設砲艦 神津丸 Auxiliary Gunboat Kamitsu Maru.

I was looking to answer a question from ijnfleetadmiral and couldn't find the details of the attack Kamitsu Maru received on April 6th.
I checked 渡辺博史’s WATANABE Hiroshi’s TROM, and find the below.
神津丸 Kamitsu Maru engaged the operation under CAPT NAKAZATO Ryuji 中里隆治 from 25 February 1945 to 13 March 1945.
She returned Yokohama on 14 March 1945.
She departed Yokohama on April 8th.
It means CAPT YAGI Kyugo 八木九五 was dead in Japan. If he was not KIA, he may have not promoted to RADM. So I asked my acquaintance, who is familiar with the personnel affairs of the Army and Navy, "Did Japanese Navy have RADM Yagi Kyugo 八木九五?" Surprisingly, the answer was "Negative". My acquaintance says that Yagi Shogo died on April 6th, but it was a "natural death" rather than a KIA.

Before posting the following, I had confirmed in three different sources that Yagi Shingo was KIA on April 6th and was promoted to RADM. Now it turns out that the three sources are wrong. So I would like to correct as the below.

2nd Fleet Staff in 1939-1940. You know who the captain is next to Koga? I'd say it's KUROHARA Taizo (22 class Engineer) or KATAOKA Katsumi (surgeon). Thanks.

In the photo his job title written on the binoculars is 第二艦隊 / 艦隊機関長 2nd Fleet / Fleet Engineer Officer.
There were three possibilities.
Commanding Officers
VADM / VADM KOGA Mineichi 古賀峯一 (34): 21 October 1939 - 1 September 1941 (13 C13072076500 / 1 C13072081900)
Engineer Officers
CAPT / CAPT SAWA Tatsu 沢達 (Eng.22): 15 November 1938 - 15 November 1939 (17 C13072074600 / 29 C13072076800)
CAPT / CAPT KUROHARA Taizo 黒原退蔵 (Eng.22): 15 November 1939 - 15 November 1940 (30 C13072076800 / 4 C13072079600)
CAPT / CAPT UMEBAYASHI Masayoshi 梅林正義 (Eng.23): 15 November 1940 - 10 September 1941 (4 C13072079600 / 31 C13072082000)
I found UMEBAYASHI Masayoshi' photo. He was different.
He was likely KUROHARA Taizo who have a longer term with KOGA Mineichi.

Back in November I was trying to find out info on units I referred to as "Defense Corps", but were really more along the lines of "Naval Stations". While most COs have been found, I still have a couple blanks. TIA for anyone who can help with these.

Mako Defense Corps

CDR HIROSE Hikota (32) – 20 July 1923 – 15 April 1925
