According to a Wiki entry, in 1939 Japan had more people under its control than the Nationalist Chinese - 304,000,000 v. 267,000,000, placing it second to the British Empire.

Of the Japanese total, some 200,000,000 were Chinese.

As the Japanese conquered more of China after 1939, was there a point when they had more Chinese under its rule than the Nationalist Chinese?

A curious Sid.
