hi

occupied Poland known by the Germans as the General Government. This territory was split into 5 districts one of which was called Galicia. The picture I have was taken in Galicia on 18 July 1944. The Japanese ambassador is present

best wishes

Hello and thank you

I have already explored that option to no avail.

I have two names for potential candidates - SAKUMA and OGA but that's as much as I have at present and I have no way of verifying either

best wishes

I doubt there were any foreign embassies in GG. Not even permanent consulates.
So there was no such position as a Japanese Ambassador in GG.

Only exeption I know of was an attempt by Frank to have a permanent Italian diplomate in Krakau to provide support for Italian soldiers in transit to East front. But he was neither ambassador nor a consul, innitialy working from Berlin.

As far as I know, the ambassador (Sakō Shōichi) and most of his stuff returned to Japan at the beginning of 1940.
The embassy itself was formally closed down on October 4th, 1941.

I agree with Greg and wm,

As, uniquely among occupied territories, Germany did not recognize any sort of Polish successor state, why would the Japanese? Who could their diplomatic mission be acredited to?

Cheers,

Sid.

The embassy existed so long in the occupied Warsaw because the Japanese were offended by the Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact and as a sign of solidarity with Poland - their unofficial ally against the USSR for so many years.

I aggree with wm but IMHO there was not a japanese ambasador in Poland after the fall of Warzaw, because the state of Poland doesn't exist anymore for the Germans.
Maybe the japanese ambassador in Germany (Hiroshi Ōshima) assumed this function????
Kindly regards from Belgium and very sorry for my poor english but's not my native language.
