Apparently Japan sent 16 military and civilian delegates to discuss terms at MacArthur's HQ in Manila 19 August, traveling in the semi-famous two white Bettys to Ie Shima, then boarding a C-54.
The most senior representative I've found is LTGEN Torashiro Kawabe of the Imperial Army general staff. Anybody have a line on other participants? Seems oddly quiet for a pretty important event!
